All the versions of this article: [English] [français]

After a short introduction on early the electric instruments of Cahill, de Mager, Martenot, Trautwein, Givelet and Coupleux, and Bertrand, Marc Battier studies a particular case: the Theremin. He analyses the novelty and the gestural qualities of this electric instrument through discussing the repertory of its first concerts, journalist reactions, testimonies coming from commercial and musical sources and musical methods devised by Clara Rockmore.
