Le compositeur et l’ordinateur : quelques réflexions

1981

Le compositeur et l’ordinateur. Paris: IRCAM/Centre Georges Pompidou: 1-5.

Through his music, the composer offers a personal response to the problems of language, form, structures, aesthetics and relationships with the audience. The author explains how the computer amplifies these problems and how the creator must devise temporary responses in order to overcome these problems. He details three causes:

  1. The computer contains immense possibilities
  2. The computer provokes a new thinking
  3. The computer creates relationships between the composer and the technology that influence the creative process.
