The composer develops his ideas on music making using markov chains and stochastic structures at different levels (“microcomposition”, “mesocomposition” and “macrocomposition”). After a long introduction concerning history and aesthetic discussion on art and music, he discusses his work on the UPIC (Unité Polyagogique Informatique du CEMAMu) system and his Diatope realisations, from both microcomposition and macrocomposition perspectives.
