In this paper, the author conducts an evaluation of multi-user instruments. He discusses several previous studies and taxonomies, and offers brief descriptions of seven existing examples of multi-user instruments: Imaginary Landscapes No. 4 (1951), Mikrophonie I (1964), The League of Automatic Composers (1978), Sensorband’s SoundNet (1995), The Squeezables (2001), The Tooka (2002), The reacTable*.
