Pour une musique concrète “médiatiste”

2005

Michel Chion, Portraits Polychromes. Paris: INA-GRM/CDMC: 93-97.

The French composer Michel Chion defines musique concrète through its characteristics: narrativity repetition and form, and the two tendencies (naturalist or “immédiatiste” and “médiatiste”). The naturalist tendency consists of putting together sounds as if they are naturally related. In the “médiatiste” tendency (preferred by Michel Chion), the techniques of sound editing and mixing are very important, and so is the fact that the listener can hear them.
