The author examines the function of space (spatiality) in acousmatic music: is it to focus the listening on structural perceptions or on more complex functions? From the work of French composer François Bayle, he analyses the function of space in his piece Petite polyphonie (1973) and develops two concepts: the helpful space (to clarify the perception of complex polyphonies) and the proliferate space (the appearance of a new space quality).
