In acousmatic music, perception replaces performance/competence by coherence/”écoutabilité”. The French composer François Bayle studies these concepts and details three aspects of acousmatic music: studio versus sonic cabin, space and time versus their traces, crude materials versus their manipulations. Through one of his works, an extract of Grande polyphonie, he analyses the ’individuation concept’ (Gilbert Simondon) as a guide for acousmatic perception.
