2003

Tuesday 29 August 2006, by Pierre Couprie

The UPIC machine is a computer that synthesis sounds from graphical drawings. It was one of the major accomplishments of its creator Iannis Xenakis, and an important electroacoustic device of the 1970s. This paper presents an overview of the most important functions of the UPIC system and their musical applications.

UPIC stands for Unité Polyagogique et Informatique du CEMAMu (Centre d’Étude de Mathématiques et d’Automatique Musicales).
