In this paper, the author presents a personal account of his explorations of musical improvisation with a computer. He focuses on three topics: controllers and generators, macro vs. micro level control, and individual vs. collective and dilettante vs. professional performers. He also offers a brief overview of the F@ust Music Online project (FMOL).
