In this article (a response to comments by Wendy Carlos on algorithmic composition tools, published in Active Sensing, Vol. 1, #3, Fall, 1989), the author highlights the need to utilise the correct terminology in order to accurately distinguish between random, algorithmic, and intelligent approaches in process-based musical composition.
