In this article, the author discusses two terms that are of particular significance in understanding the work practices and theories of electroacoustic music - ’abstract’ and ’concrete’. He investigates how these terms are used in a variety of contexts, and suggests a conceptual framework that might help in an understanding of the many key ideas in electroacoustic music.
