The Anxiety of the Lonely Listener: Some Thoughts on the Production and Perception of Radio

2002

Diffusion. October 2002. London: Sonic Arts Network: 2-4.

In this article, the author presents a somewhat philosophical discussion concerning radio as a phenomenological medium, based on its contingent nature. In that the content that it projects is experienced differently depending on who is listening, where, when, and why they are listening. He notes how the radio artist does not produce a work confined to one reading, but triggers a process of imagination in the perception of the listener.
